Topic:

Drilling Into Anomalies of Fraud

Objectives:

Fraud is intended to be concealed, which often makes it difficult to uncover without the right tools and perspective. A fraudster will often ensure that the fraud they are committing cannot be detected through regular company policies or detection methods, which is why it is necessary to review the data from a different perspective. Utilizing pivot tables, the financial data can be reviewed from different perspectives and summarized at many different levels. These different perspectives cause anomalies in the data to appear which can be investigated further until the fraud scheme is uncovered.

After attending this session, participants will be able to:

  • Utilize pivot tables to review and summarize financial data
  • Recognize patterns in data to reveal evidence of fraud
  • Understand a fraud scheme case study and how pivot tables helped uncover the fraud
